Agatha’s Journey
My journey to becoming a healer started like many of the stories I hear from my clients. When I was 20 years old, I suddenly became very ill. I was exhausted and anxious, and I couldn’t figure out why. I saw many Western Medicine doctors. One after the other told me that I was just imagining my illness. Then I had appointments with Dr. Robert Atkins and Dr. Carlton Fredericks. They listened to me and helped me heal. They changed my life -- and influenced the direction of my life’s work -- more than they probably could imagine.
I started working with herbs. It came naturally to me, and family members told me they weren’t surprised. My mother’s grandmother was the healer in the village of Ferruzzano in the province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, where I was born. She delivered all the babies in the village and was occasionally called to wrap a broken bone or make one of her herbal tinctures. I didn’t know about her -- and didn’t know her name was also Agatha -- until I was becoming a healer myself.
Throughout my education, the school of thought that spoke most to me was Traditional Chinese Medicine, which teaches that your body needs to be in balance to be healthy. I loved the idea that food can heal and bring our bodies into balance, if we know how to eat the proper meals for our body type. If our body is running hot, cold, damp or dry, we can change our body chemistry and temperature by implementing the proper foods.
A strong believer in the connection between mind, body and spirit, I also learned body and energy work, such as cupping, acupressure and Access Bars. Tapping into my clients’ meridian channels, chakras and auric field for various treatments can be a powerful way to help them heal.
My health and wellness consultancy has served hundreds of people. I am grateful to be doing what I’m doing. I have completely returned to my roots. I am true to who I am, a healer practicing what some in my home country would call ‘country folk medicine’. I was meant to bring these herbs, healing techniques and energy work to this modern world because they work.
I am a nutritional health coach board-certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and an alternative therapist New Jersey state-licensed in massage and bodywork.
After studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and nutrition under Paul Pitchford, one of the most renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners in the world, I decided to make it the cornerstone of my consultancy. To ensure my knowledge was well-rounded, I also studied integrative nutrition at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City.
I received my formal education in cupping from the International Cupping Therapy Association in Kent, Washington, but I actually first started learning to cup from my mother when I was a little girl.
I studied acupressure at IGM Therapeutic Acupressure in Hawthorne, New Jersey and acupressure and energy healing at the Sun Institute in Oradell, New Jersey.
As a teacher, I also enjoy sharing my expertise. At the Institute for Continuing Education in Fairfield, New Jersey, I instructed chiropractors, physical therapists, athletic trainers and massage therapists on cupping. I also taught classes on how to heal the gut at Root Wellness Center in Edgewater, New Jersey and classes on how to cook healthy on a budget at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. In addition, I’ve provided cooking classes at Ramsey Adult School and privately for clients.
